Middle School Principal’s Letter
Dear Parents,
Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. This week, you heard from your child about how they have progressed during the school year as learners.
However, I want to congratulate Ms. Shalaby and Mr. McCuaig on the fun and entertaining musical production “Into the Woods.” The students were awesome and saved their best for last. Your commitment to the production was evident, and the students fed off your passion and enthusiasm.
Congratulations to our CISSA athletes who competed in the soccer tournament last weekend. The girls finished in second place. Bravo! The boys fought hard, but the results weren’t in their favor.
Thank you to all the parents who attended the student-led conferences and those who did it at home with their children. The feedback overall was positive. You had first hand experience of the student-led conferences, and experienced our students actively participating in their learning by preparing and leading the discussions. We believe this involvement fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility as students develop self-advocacy skills and learn to articulate their strengths, weaknesses, and goals.
The preparation process for a student-led conference requires students to reflect on their work, assess their progress, and identify areas for improvement with the guidance of their teachers. This reflection promotes critical thinking and self-assessment skills. As a result, the students deeply analyze their learning journey, adding to increased motivation and effort in their studies as they prepare for the next grade level.
Being active participants in the conference process, students are more engaged compared to traditional conferences where they are merely passive recipients. We believe this heightened engagement can lead to a deeper understanding and commitment for students. Parents also benefit from student-led conferences as they gain a more comprehensive understanding of their child’s learning process, progress, and challenges directly from the student’s perspective.
Overall, student-led conferences promote a holistic approach to education that values student voice, fosters a collaborative learning environment, and supports the development of essential life skills. Through this process, students improve academically and develop essential skills that will benefit them beyond the classroom.
This week, we had the Spring Music Festival on campus during lunch and after school from Sunday to Wednesday. The strings, choir, and band students had the opportunity to perform live and showcase their skills. We want to thank all those who were able to attend and show their support to our musicians. Thanks to Mr. McCuaig, Mr. Dzamashvili, and Ms. Shalaby for supporting the event.
Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.
In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey

Note From the Health Office
Dear Parents,
If your student is entering grade 9 next school year, we ask that she/he is seen and examined by a doctor and that a physical form be completed and sent to the health office on or before the first day of school in August.
We are more than happy to accept early completed physicals.
Many thanks,
Nurse Claire.

Grade 9 Orientation Meeting – August 18th, 2024
Hello, Grade 8 parents,
Earlier this week, the high school counselors met with the current 8th graders during their advisory to continue our communication about the transition to high school.
As you know, we met with them earlier this spring for their course selections and an introduction to high school.
This week, we had them meet some of our Grade 9 teachers in person so they could go over some concepts of what to expect in their classes next year.
We also had a Grade 9 Student Panel talk to them about topics that are important for a smooth transition to high school, such as time management, grading, Study Hall, off campus privileges, general expectations as a high schooler and more.
We hope that putting names to faces of some high school teachers and high school peers will help set the 8th graders at ease as they envision their life next year as a high schooler.
We will continue to provide information at the upcoming orientation for them in August.
Please have your 8th graders mark their calendar for Grade 9 Orientation on Sunday, August 18th from 12 noon to 1 pm.
Parents do NOT need to attend, but please make sure your student has transportation that day to attend their orientation on campus.
We will provide them lunch at the end of orientation, and the students will receive their class schedules on that day.
We will meet in the CAC theater, and then we will have a tour of the high school building, meet more high school teachers,
plus we will go over what to expect the first few days and weeks of 9th grade.
Please email cbean@cacegypt.org if you have any questions about orientation, schedules or anything else as your 8th graders becomes a high schooler.
Your HS Counselors: C Bean, K. Semler & J Stiles
