Highro Glyphics Newsletter Week of February 22, 2024

CAC High School Principal’s Notes

As I write this week’s edition of the Highro-glyphics, our swimming team is on their way to Greece to compete in the Athens Cup invitational swim meet. As always, they will be representing CAC excellently in this highly competitive event, and we look forward to updates throughout the weekend on how they are getting on. Another opportunity to shout, “Go Eagles!”

INJAZ students winning awards in Doha

Injaz Egypt, a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide—the world’s largest youth-serving NGO—ran its Company Program as a hands-on entrepreneurship experience for ambitious students in private schools across Egypt. The program culminated in a competition where teams competed for the coveted “Company of the Year Award.” This year, “Exten-Desk”, the team from CAC, won “Company of the Year” and secured a spot to represent Egypt and compete in the Regional Youth Entrepreneurship Week competition organized in Doha. We are very proud of our team of 12th graders who traveled this week to compete against students from 13 other countries from the MENA region.

Selling tickets for the HS Production of “The Giver”

Set building for “The Giver”

There are several important arts events to look forward to in the next two weeks. The high school production of “The Giver” will open its doors on February 28, and following that, the annual IB Art Exhibition will open on Sunday, March 3. On March 4, the Varsity Dance team will be presenting a Dance Festival. We encourage all our parent community to join these events in celebration of the hard work and creativity of our arts students. (See times and locations below.)

We are now into the final two weeks of learning for quarter three. If you can believe it, we will embark on the final quarter of the school year after spring break when we return to school on March 17. Students have been busy working through curriculum and assessments throughout this quarter. It is worth remembering, however, that this is a “progress check” report, not a formal school report. The quarter three grade does not appear on the student’s high school transcript. A progress report is an indication of how students are performing on work which has been completed so far. By the end of the semester, teachers will have completed the full assessment plan for each course and a more balanced and detailed picture will emerge of their achievement. If you have not done so already, now would be a good time to check in with your student to ask them how they feel things are going ahead of receiving the progress report soon after spring break.

HS Parent Coffee

It was wonderful to welcome many parents to the campus yesterday for this month’s High School Parent Coffee Morning. We addressed the topic of “Nurturing Well-being in High School Students.” I am attaching some of the resources that were shared in the session to this week’s newsletter. At CAC, we take the health and well-being of our students extremely seriously, and we understand that working in partnership with you as parents, we share the responsibility to keep our children happy and healthy as they progress through their learning journey. The teenage years of high school can be particularly challenging in many ways, and I hope that the materials attached here are useful to you as parents.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.

The Giver
This year’s HS production

February 28th and 29th @ 6.00
March 1st at 2pm.

Sometime in the future, an 11-year-old boy named Jonas lives in a seemingly perfect community in which there is little pain and little crime. People are polite. Everyone belongs to a supportive family. But this harmony comes at a price. There is also no choice, and real emotions are nonexistent. Life is dictated by strict rules and being different is shameful.
At the Ceremony of Twelve, Jonas is given the highly honored Assignment of Receiver of Memory. The Receiver is the sole keeper of the community’s collective memory. Through his new role Jonas comes to learn pain, love, sacrifice and choice. The story is one of courage and discovery.

The talented HS Theatre ensemble have taken on this challenging and imaginative story for you to enjoy. Join us to witness the stage version of this well known work of YA fiction.

****Running time 90 minutes with a 15 minute interval****
****Please note- strobe lights, loud noises and references to violence and war are used during the show****
****Suitable for older MS and up****
