Week Without Walls Program Kickoff coming soon!

At Cairo American College (CAC), the Week Without Walls (WWW) program offers high school students a unique experiential learning opportunity. Students can choose to enroll in a one-week course either on campus, in Cairo, or embark on an overnight adventure within Egypt or abroad. Successful completion of a WWW course is essential for students aiming to graduate from CAC.

The 2024/25 Week Without Walls is scheduled to run from October 20 to October 24, 2024 (weekends inclusive for overnight travel). Registration kicks off in mid- May. During this period, students and families will receive course details and are required to express their preferences via Skyward. Course assignments are based on factors like seniority, past participation in WWW, behavior, and individual interests. Course assignments will be announced about 1 week after enrollment closes. For international courses, an initial down payment of USD 1000 is due by June 2nd, followed by the remaining balance by September 5th.

Keep an eye out for upcoming registration details. Expect an email with a link to the course catalog in mid-May. Information sessions for each course will be conducted after the registration process concludes. This ensures families are informed about their child’s assignment before finalizing registration.

Please be aware that the availability of overnight courses depends on the number of accompanying faculty members. While not all students may be able to travel abroad for WWW, there are ample opportunities for all students to partake in enriching educational experiences.

I hope you enjoy the selection of photos in this week’s edition that show some of the diverse educational experiences CAC high school students (and parents) enjoy.

Wishing you a wonderful long weekend ahead. See you back at school on Tuesday 7th; it will be an A Day.

AMERICAN MUSIC ABROAD: Beatbox House Program in Egypt

We are proud to announce the award-winning American vocal music band, The Beatbox House, is visiting Egypt as part of its 2024 world tour.  The Beatbox House’s visit to Egypt – the only stop in the Middle East during the 2024 tour – will bring this uniquely American musical genre to three Egyptian cities: Luxor, Cairo, and Alexandria. The Beatbox House’s hip-hop style will combine with legendary Egyptian band Wust El-Balad for a performance in Cairo and musical powerhouse Sharmoofers for a performance in Alexandria. These fusion performances will combine the very best of American and Egyptian cultures. The theme for The Beatbox House’s 2024 tour of Egypt is “Almazieka tegam3na” or ”Music Brings US Together.” Please help us spread the word to the CAC community!

On May 1 at 8pm, The Beatbox House will showcase the raw energy of their beatboxing in Cairo at the American University of Cairo’s Tahrir Campus, joined by Egyptian music legends Wust El-Balad for a once-in-a-lifetime Egyptian-American musical experience.  There will be free prizes for the first 1,000 registered ticket holders in Cairo!   Tickets are free and open to the public via https://www2.ticketsmarche.com/mgucai.

On May 3 at 8pm, The Beatbox House will join the incredibly talented Sharmoofers at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Alexandria.  This show will fuse American beatboxing with the unparalleled Egyptian pop traditions epitomized by Sharmoofers’ rich, melodic sound. Tickets are free and open to the public via https://www2.ticketsmarche.com/mgualex

From the Booster Club

The CAC Booster Club NEEDS YOU!!! The Booster Club is a volunteer organization on campus that runs on parent power. We raise money through the Spirit Store and Spirit Cafe to support the sports and activities that happen at CAC at all age levels. If you would like to become more involved in fundraising and socializing on campus, then we have the perfect opportunities! We are in need of people to take some positions that will become vacant during the next school year. The positions that are available are:

President: organize meetings, recruit volunteers and help with events
Vice President: support the president and help with events
Store Rep: help manage the Spirit Store and its volunteers
Treasurer (in training): gradually take over managing the Booster Club’s finances

Please reach out to us at boosterclub@cac.org for any more information about these positions or to ask any questions that you might have. Executive elections will take place at the final Booster Club meeting on May 20th in the Spirit Store at 10am. The Booster Club and CAC will thank you for your volunteerism!

Eco Fair Thrift Store

Part of the Eco Fair is the Thrift Store, where members of the community bring in clothing they no longer want, to be resold, hence the name. The goal of this is to encourage using sustainable shopping methods rather than fast fashion brands! So, from April 21st to May 6th, we will be collecting donations for the Thrift Store. All donations can be dropped off in the red bin with the recycling symbol at the front of the school.
Please see these posters for more information!

If you have any questions please email greenteam@cacegypt.org.

Green Team Eco Fair

Join us for the 2024 Green Team Eco Fair that will be held on Thursday, May 9th from 3-8pm on Mr. Bailey’s MS field. This event is a great opportunity for students to relax and watch an environmental documentary, explore and purchase products from various eco-friendly vendors, and celebrate our planet!

CAC All Pro Dad – May 16

Hello everyone! The next CAC All Pro Dad meeting is scheduled for 16 May.

All Pro Dad is a monthly gathering where dads get to intentionally engage with their kids! This of course is not just limited to dads, but all children must be accompanied by an adult. There will be fun activities and a character-based curriculum that helps parents start meaningful conversations with their kids.

The next meeting is scheduled for 16 May at 7:00 am and it would be great to see you there.

May’s topic is Respect. To respect others is to believe they’re valuable and to treat them that way. When we believe people are valuable, we are considerate of them, and we honor their rights and their wishes.

If you would like to come, please RSVP here! https://allprodadchapters.com/chapters/13407
