CAC High School Principal’s Notes

It’s exam season!

The heat is on – literally and metaphorically! As well as the weather heating up dramatically, the heat is turning up for our IB seniors with their IB examination beginning today. We wish all our seniors who are sitting IB examinations in the coming weeks the very best of luck. However, we know that luck plays little part in their success. Success is the result of two years of diligent study, hard work, and dedication. Additionally, our students have honed highly sophisticated organizational, study, and exam-taking skills. We are confident that they will perform to the best of their abilities.

We are moving into a long weekend, returning to school on Sunday the 28th. This is followed by another long weekend for the Labour Day and Easter holidays next weekend. It’s crucial for our students to use these holidays to rest, relax, and recharge in these final weeks of school. However, they must also maintain a balance by staying on top of their work, developing a study schedule, and working diligently to meet their independent learning goals.

Soon, Grades 9 to 11 will also be taking their end of semester exams and work in class over the next few weeks will focus on wrapping up course content and preparing them for these final assessments. Although these exams can be a stressful and challenging experience for students—and they certainly are challenging in their cumulative nature (testing material covered in the full semester)—it’s always worth remembering that the semester exam is only one more assessment task in a wide range of assessments that have been completed throughout the semester. Semester exams are weighted in such a way that it does not have a more significant impact on a final grade than the other assessments that have preceded them through the full course of the semester. As parents you can help your student keep exams in perspective and help to manage their stress levels by making sure that they study effectively in small increments on a regular basis, rather than cramming study into the final few days.

This weekend, a group of CAC artists will travel to Geneva to participate in the International Schools Theater Association High School Inter-Arts Festival. We wish them well with their artistic endeavors!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.

Teacher Letters of Recommendation: The majority of students will be in need of an academic recommendation(s) for university applications. On this coming Sunday (April 28) Class of 2025 students will receive instructions and policies for requesting these letters of recommendation and are asked to start this process ASAP. Students should request letters of recommendation from teachers by May 16th, 2024, by following the instructions that will be sent in the email Sunday. Students should contact their counselor if they have any questions or concerns.

Varsity Baseball Intersquad Game

This week’s game turned into an intersquad match as many players from the Scrubs were unavailable. The game showcased impressive skills and highlights from our team:

• Nathan stood out with a spectacular diving catch, followed by a forceout at second base. At bat, he hit a double and a single, scored twice, and stole several bases. Nathan also contributed two strong innings as a pitcher.
• Wyatt had a good game, hitting a double and a single, scoring two runs, and pitching a solid inning of relief.
• Kaden showed off some power by hitting a home run and a single, while scoring two runs. He also made a key defensive play by throwing out a runner trying to steal second base.
• Isaac contributed with a double and a single, adding a run.

The game was a great opportunity to witness our players’ show their skills on both offense and defense, highlighting their versatility.

Eco Fair Thrift Store

Part of the Eco Fair is the Thrift Store, where members of the community bring in clothing they no longer want, to be resold, hence the name. The goal of this is to encourage using sustainable shopping methods rather than fast fashion brands! So, from April 21st to May 6th, we will be collecting donations for the Thrift Store. All donations can be dropped off in the red bin with the recycling symbol at the front of the school.
Please see these posters for more information!

If you have any questions please email greenteam@cacegypt.org.

CAC All Pro Dad – May 16

Hello everyone! The next CAC All Pro Dad meeting is scheduled for 16 May.

All Pro Dad is a monthly gathering where dads get to intentionally engage with their kids! This of course is not just limited to dads, but all children must be accompanied by an adult. There will be fun activities and a character-based curriculum that helps parents start meaningful conversations with their kids.

The next meeting is scheduled for 16 May at 7:00 am and it would be great to see you there.

May’s topic is Respect. To respect others is to believe they’re valuable and to treat them that way. When we believe people are valuable, we are considerate of them, and we honor their rights and their wishes.

If you would like to come, please RSVP here! https://allprodadchapters.com/chapters/13407
