Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

The greeting “Casserian Energi?” is a Swahili greeting used in East Africa by the Masai tribe. It means, “And how are the children?” The response one hoped to hear is, “Sepati Ingera” which translates to “The children are well.”

We have made it this far, and I am happy to say “Sepati Ingera”. We owe so much of the success we had this year to the parents for their support of our school community. Being proactive and informing the health office of any illness in the family helped us keep everyone safe since we were all in it together. You played a pivotal role in the students learning when they were home during the e-learning and blended learning phases. We are hoping that your participation in your child’s learning does not wane over time.

Teacher Appreciation Week, which was earlier this month, is always a good time to pause and thank our teachers. We owe them so much in the best of times. But this year was special. At times throughout the year, teachers have been on the front lines of our efforts to protect families and children during the pandemic while also doing their best to keep students engaged and supported. It is impossible to thank them enough.

I recently read a tweet that I want to share; it said: “The resourcefulness, strength, and commitment of teachers are unmatched—a fact that has been underscored during the pandemic as teachers across the world made sure kids never stop learning.”

I wish to thank the PTO and Booster Club volunteers for their creativity and forgoing the extra mile to make sure we had fun on campus. Your support of the teachers and students meant a lot, and we want you to know our school is special because of your commitment and dedication.

This unprecedented school year is nearly over. I encourage you to take some time to reflect with your child on all that they were able to achieve and accomplish. We were an example for others, and I hope that we will remain Avant-garde in everything we do going forward.
