Middle School Principal’s Letter

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was another week of learning, exploring, and having fun for students and teachers.

I want to thank the new parents who attended the coffee morning and shared how their children are settling in. The reality is that many of us are still going through a transition. Whether it is having students back in school full-time or adjusting to a new country and culture. No matter where we are in our lives, we should be thankful that our children are having an opportunity to be kids again.

It was lovely to hear a parent say what their child likes best about the school is the teachers. We sure have talented and caring teachers, and it is important that we develop a home school partnership to help your child become the best version of themselves. Here is the link on the growth mindset that I promised to share, which has tips to help you communicate with your child.

We are proud of all the students who participated in the STUCO elections this morning. They demonstrated our core values of courage, responsibility, and perseverance. In our eyes, you are all winners and we hope you get involved and make this year a special one.

The Welcome Back Social will take place tonight from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. It is an opportunity for our students to have some good clean fun. At the same time, allowing you, the parents, to take this time and do something for yourself. That being said, we kindly ask that parents are on time to get their child once the social ends so that our chaperones can also go home to their families.

On Monday, September 21, we will be celebrating Peace Day with a short assembly. We want all students to wear a white top on that day to commemorate the white dove. On that evening, we will have a grade-six tea for parents to learn more about grade-six and what they can expect from their child’s teachers. All six-grade parents will be receiving an invite in the coming week.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

A Parent’s Guide to the Science of Attention

PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER, TRANSLATE THE BRAIN

We’ve all asked the question: “Why don’t children just pay attention?” Brain research can give powerful advice by revealing that we have been starting with the wrong question. This lively and practical talk – based on years of classroom experience, and decades of brain research – provides both fresh brain perspectives and practical parenting strategies.
