Middle School Principal’s Letter

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a busy week of learning, exploring, and having fun.

In grade seven physical education class, students learn about smart goals, and the benefits of setting a goal before participating in the fitness unit. Each student had to learn about the various components of fitness and how to take a resting and active heartbeat.

The focus message in the advisory program this week is on perseverance and developing a growth mindset. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to invite an extraordinary guest – Egyptian Paraolympian Zeiad Khalil (Our CAC cashier – Ms.Ghada’s son), who recently participated in the Paralympic Games in Japan. Zeiad gave a strong speech to our students about his life story of perseverance. It was a remarkable experience for our students given all that he had to endure growing up.

Grade 8 Parent Tea
: A reminder of the invite for Grade 8 parents to attend an informational session on Tuesday, October 5, from 8:00 to 9:00 AM in Room 116. Grade 8 teachers and students will provide parents with information about our coursework, strategies, resources, and tools for students’ academic success and social-emotional wellbeing. We will also explore ways to help your child prepare for the upcoming transition to High School. As we are in Phase 3 of CAC’s COVID-19 Operational Manual, we ask each attendee to complete this RSVP form by Monday, October 4, by 3:00 PM, so we can adequately accommodate the number of participants and meet mitigation guidelines. If you cannot attend, we will be sharing the information presented in both the Morning Announcements and the MS News & Views later that week.

On Wednesday, October 6th, we will be issuing our first Progress Report Cards. We will be reporting out on the student’s commitment to their Approaches to Learning (ATLs).

  • Standard ATL feedback (Consistently, Usually, Sometimes, and Rarely) will report the students’ commitment to learning.
  • Only students receiving “Rarely” in the ATLs at school will receive a written comment.
  • New students will receive a written comment welcoming them to CAC.

Progress Reports will give us a baseline for how students can grow over the course of the year.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey

NESA Parents as Partners Webinar Series – Session 3
October 5, 4:00-5:00pm (Athens, Greece GMT+3)

In Our Classrooms, In Our Schools: What is the Story of Learning?
With Mark Church

Consider these questions with the Harvard Project Zero Cultures of Thinking initiative: Just what would it mean for classrooms to take on an intentional stance to cultivate and grow thinking habits in students that supports their inquiry, their skill development, and their meaning-making? What difference does paying attention to developing students’ thinking dispositions make to what students can take with them long into adulthood?
