Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for reading this week’s News and Views. We end the week with the Valentine’s Day social tonight, sponsored by our student council. The students in fiber arts have been decorating the building with Valentine’s Day decorations.

Last week, we had our Talent Show, which was filled with amazing performances. I am always surprised by the students when I see them in an environment other than the classroom. The poise they demonstrated on stage was truly courageous. Ms. Fides, the educators, Mr. Kasal, and the crew turned in a special performance. If you missed this year’s show, plan ahead so you don’t miss next year’s, which promises to be better.

“Can we make a video that will make tourists excited to come and see ancient Egypt?” This was the question delivered to grade 6 students at the beginning of their unit on ancient Egypt. For the past 6 weeks, the students have been learning about ancient Egypt, its famous monuments, and its famous pharaohs. Students were then placed into groups, where they began to dissect elements of tourism videos. Students learned how to build videos, imbed images and video clips, and build soundtracks that matched a theme. The end result? A captivating 90-second video with a focus on tourism!

The project culminated in a presentation in front of panelists with backgrounds in video, Egyptology, marketing, and more!

We want to remind all grade-eighth parents that there will be a transition meeting next Tuesday night at 5:00 pm. You should have received an invitation asking you to confirm your attendance.

The grade-eighth students will have a session with the high school counselor on the 19th of February.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal
