Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. I hope this message finds you well. It was a week filled with our students displaying the core value of courage.

Thanks to Ms. Torky, Ms. Fides, and Ms. Spencer for organizing the Student Council speeches and elections. We have never had so many candidates who wanted to represent their school. Each position had six candidates who gave inspiring speeches on Sunday and Monday. It was a first in many ways, with the executive council being all boys. It has never happened before; that all positions had a runoff in the end. We are proud of all candidates for showing courage and perseverance.

The winners are as follows:
President: Kamal Sika
Vice President: Kamal Nakhla
Treasurer: Amin Abou Ghaly
Secretary: Hussien El-Khazindar

In other news, we have the Welcome Back Social tonight from 5:00 pm – 7 00 pm.

Please mark your calendar, on Monday, September 18, from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm. The grade six team will be have an afternoon tea for all sixth-grade parents. I encourage you to attend to learn more about what we do in grade six to help students transition from elementary school.

Thank you to all the parents who were in attendance at the coffee morning on Wednesday. The turnout was remarkable and I want to express a special thank you to those returning parents who made a genuine effort to reach out and connect with our new parents. Your warm welcome and willingness to share your experiences and insights truly made a difference in helping our new families feel welcomed and supported. Your kindness and generosity embody the sense of community that we strive to foster at CAC.

Building strong connections between parents is not only beneficial for our new families, but it also strengthens our school community. When parents come together, share their experiences, and support one another, it creates a network. This collaboration between parents is invaluable and greatly contributes to the success and well-being of our students.

Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to middle school. We value your partnership and look forward to a successful academic year of growth and achievement.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. The Principal’s Perspective. I hope this message finds you well as we navigate the second week with Back To School Night.

I want to thank all parents who attended the Back To School Night. It was a pleasure to meet face-to-face and reconnect after a prolonged online period. The experience provided a valuable platform for you to witness the dedication and passion of our teachers, who will spend extensive hours each day guiding and nurturing your children’s educational journeys. Teaching is undoubtedly a challenging profession, particularly evident during the unprecedented circumstances brought about by the pandemic.

We hope you will partner with teachers to help your child navigate their middle school experience. The middle school years are pivotal to a child’s development. A positive partnership between families and schools improves children’s academic achievement, social competencies, and emotional well-being. Research has shown that this partnership will benefit the child immensely.

The season one of athletics and activities will start on Sunday, September 3rd. We ask that you help students prepare themselves the night before with everything they need to get off to a good start.

In other news, the seventh-grade social studies students recently engaged in a dynamic activity where they brought our core values to life. The level of enthusiasm and participation was inspiring.

Additionally, seventh-grade science students had the opportunity to explore the diverse plant life on our campus during a nature walk. It was an enriching experience that allowed them to deepen their understanding of the natural world.

Our studio art class has been busy creating beautiful and personalized greeting cards. It’s remarkable to witness the creativity and talent that our students possess.

Lastly, during lunchtime, our students actively engage in activities promoting exploration, learning, and fun during lunchtime. It was wonderful to witness the bonds being formed and the joy that radiates throughout our school community.

Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to middle school. We value your partnership and look forward to a successful academic year of growth and achievement.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement. It has been wonderful to see our students settling into the rhythm of the school and exploring their newfound freedom within the building.

I was delighted to welcome over 50 new families to our school community this year. To help you feel more connected, I want to extend a special invitation to all new parents to attend the Principal Coffee morning on September 6th. The gathering will occur in MS 115 and begin at 8:15, offering an opportunity to meet fellow parents and learn more about our school.

Thank you to all our new parents who attended the PRIME Trips presentation. I sincerely appreciate your presence. These trips are designed to foster lasting relationships and provide a unique learning experience. We understand that some families may not send their children on trips. To ensure all students have a meaningful experience, we have organized a Cairo-based trip during that week for all students who do not attend the PRIME Trips. We will provide further details during the presentation on Tuesday, August 29th, at 5:00 p.m.

Mark your calendars for our upcoming Back To School Night (BTSN) on Tuesday, August 29th, at 5:00 p.m. The evening will commence with a comprehensive overview of the new school year. Following this, you will have the opportunity to attend your child’s advisory class and follow their schedule for the remainder of the evening. Please check your email from the middle school office for more information.

With the arrival of September, we are excited to kick off the Fall athletics/activities sports season on September 3rd for middle school athletes. However, I’d like to acknowledge the junior varsity cross-country team, who have already started training and are off to a great start.

Lastly, I want to highlight our upcoming student council election speeches, which will take place on September 3rd and 4th. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their presentation skills. The final Speeches will be given on Monday, September 4, during an MS Assembly in the morning (and possibly afternoon, depending on numbers), with elections to follow. I encourage parents to attend and support our aspiring student leaders.

Thank you for your continuous support of the middle school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

I warmly welcome all of you as we embark on another school year. I trust that you had a restful and enjoyable summer, and I am thrilled to welcome the new families joining our caring CAC community this year.

Our dedicated teachers have had ample time to recharge and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of new and returning students.

At the start of each academic year, we are fortunate to welcome new teacher, to our team, and it is with great pride that I introduce this year’s additions:

Ms. Lorraine Playfair – LA (6) is hailing us from Scotland
Ms. Nadine White – Psychologist -joining us from Doha
Mr. John White – Physical Education (8) – also coming from Doha
Mr. Jasen Hines – ELL (6-8) – arriving from Japan
Mr. Chris Broad – Disruptive Innovation and Technology – based in Cairo

Transitioning back to school after a leisurely summer break is overwhelming for students and parents. To facilitate a smooth adjustment and foster a positive mindset,

I would like to offer a few helpful tips:

  • Gradually transition into a “school” sleep schedule to ensure sufficient rest and encourage a positive attitude towards returning to school.
  • Allocate a designated basket for each child to store their shoes, bookbags, and jackets.
  • Equip each child with a container filled with essential homework supplies that can be transported from one area of the house to another, such as from the kitchen to the computer room.
  • Establish a place for each child to store important school papers, either within a section of your file cabinet or a designated box under their bed.
  • Remember to keep supplies minimal and straightforward. Bulky and elaborate folders and notebooks can be cumbersome for students. Encourage your children to look forward to the new school year by having each person (including you) share at least two goals: one academic goal and one “fun” goal.
  • During the first week of school, we will focus on establishing routines.
  • I recommend holding a “Saturday Night Meeting” every week, where each family member gathers with their planners/calendars for a brief 10-15 minute “session.” This allows you to discuss schedules, plan rides home from after-school activities, and share any upcoming commitments to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • Preparing for school the night before is another effective strategy to avoid chaotic mornings and prevent forgotten school supplies. Encourage your children to pack their homework, bookpacks, and lunch or lunch money before bedtime.
  • Furthermore, setting out clothes, shoes and jackets in advance can streamline the morning routine. It is crucial for all students to utilize a homework planner. I encourage you to check your child’s planner every night until it becomes a routine for everyone.
  • Regularly cleaning out bookbags is essential to prevent lost assignments. I suggest dedicating a specific time, such as during the Saturday Night Meeting to declutter and organize bookbags.
  • Providing your children with choices can enhance cooperation during homework time. Consider offering options for dinner or different times for completing assignments. Empowering your children through choices fosters their cooperation.
  • Recognizing and praising your children’s positive behavior is an effective way to improve cooperation. Offering specific compliments tailored to each child’s actions can have a profound impact. For example, “Thank you, Adam, for promptly starting your homework when you arrive home. I appreciate your diligence.” Positive praise goes a long way!

Lastly, I implore you to give yourself a well-deserved break. Congratulations on successfully navigating the first two days of school and I encourage you to schedule some time for self-care. You deserve it!

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and we anticipate working with you to strengthen the home-school partnership.

Courtney Bailey

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read the final version of the News and Views. It was a short week with much to celebrate in middle school. This time of year is also a time for us to say goodbye to students and faculty moving on.

We wish Mr. Harris all the best. In the past two years, he has contributed as a mentor and coach to many of our students/athletes. He will forever be a Screaming Eagle.

It was an emotional week for students who are moving on and those who are returning. Nevertheless, we pulled it together and made the best of it with grade-level breakfast and farewell speeches.

We welcomed the African Hope students participating in the Global Citizenship after-school activity to our Celebrations of Learning. It was a very special day for them as they had an opportunity to enjoy what our students do regularly. We hope to grow the program next year, and we’re looking forward to hearing what great ideas our students can share to improve it.

We had our recognition night ceremony on Monday night, and the theater was packed, celebrating the Class of 2027. Special thanks to Ms. Farida Khamis for organizing the parent committee, who did much of the heavy lifting from behind the scenes. I also thank all the grade-eight advisors for their hard work during the school year.

On Tuesday, we celebrated our students. We handed out the 5 Es award, the ATLs(Consistently award), and the student and teacher-nominated Core Values Awards. There is an anecdotal message shared to describe the recipients.

The Honor of the Eagle Award is given to one or two students who have lived up to our Core Values like no other. This year’s recipients are Asher Friesen and Katherine Jacobs.

I want to wish you all a restful and fun summer holiday.

Courtney Bailey

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It has been an eventful week filled with significant achievements, including the culmination of summative assessments and the finalization of various projects.

I congratulate the JV track team for their remarkable performance in Athens last weekend, showcasing exceptional talent and dedication. In London, our tennis team triumphantly emerged as ISSA champions for boys, while the girls secured an impressive second place. Furthermore, the middle school golf team displayed unwavering determination in Malaga, Spain, earning a well-deserved bronze medal. We commend these athletes for their commendable efforts. Please refer to the attached photos for a glimpse of their success.

It was a pleasure to witness the growth and development of our drama student’s acting skills, proudly showcased recently. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the parents who graced the performance with their presence. And it was good to see how much growth they had made since the first week of class. I wish to thank the parents who were in attendance. It makes all the difference to our students, instilling a sense of pride and motivation. Thanks to Ms. Dolly for the organization of the MS Cabaret Theater.

With great enthusiasm, I share the news of Ms. Heba Abdelnady’s visit to our middle school as part of our esteemed guest speaker program, particularly for Mr. Jorge Villafuerte’s class. The visit took place on Tuesday and offered students invaluable insights into entrepreneurship. They had the unique opportunity to explore an electric car parked on campus, experiencing the serenity of its engine and gaining firsthand knowledge about its components.

Thank you to the incoming fifth-grade parent for attending the PRIME Trips presentation and learning about the outstanding opportunities their child will have to engage in. PRIME Trips mean a great deal to our students, setting the tone for relationship-building early in the school year. The cost-benefit is instrumental in the student’s social and emotional well-being. It is one of the experiences about middle school that students will remember for years.

Grade eight parents, you are cordially invited to join us on Monday, June 5th at 6:00 PM for our 8th Grade Recognition Night, where we will celebrate your child’s successful completion of middle school and transition to high school. The ceremony will be held in the CAC Theater. We will start promptly at 6:00 PM and conclude with a reception on the HS field from 7:00-9:00 PM. This reception will include finger food, refreshments, and other surprises organized by the 8th-grade parent community to make this event a unique and memorable celebration for our students.

Thank you for your continuous support of the Middle School.

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a busy week finalizing MAP testing along with projects and summative assessments.

We are at that time of year when the end is near, and there might be thoughts of slowing down or getting in a comfort zone. Each year we ask the students to finish the year strong and keep the mentality that comfort zones are meant to be breached. This is a time in their lives to develop and reinforce habits of resilience and stamina, walk this path with them until the end, encourage them, and remind them that the benefit of staying strong until the end will be long-lasting for them.

We are excited to welcome Ms. Heba Abdelnady, as part of our guest speaker program in the MS, particularly for Mr. Jorge Villafuerte’s class. The visit will occur on Tuesday, May 30th, from 9:50 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. Please note that the guest speaker will bring an electric car to demonstrate and discuss with MS students some of the concepts being taught in class.

I want to congratulate the students for their performance during Student-Led Conferences. A great deal of work by your child, alongside their advisory teacher, made it all possible. To all the grade eight parents, it was a milestone for many of you because your child sat down and shared their learning transformation through middle school as they head off to high school next fall. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning journey; by having close to 100% parent participation in these conferences, we have empowered your child’s middle school journey!

Thank you for attending the PRIME Trips presentation and learning about the outstanding opportunities your child will have the opportunity to engage in. PRIME Trips means a great to our students, and it sets the tone for relationship-building early in the school year. The cost-benefit is instrumental in the student’s social and emotional well-being. It is one of the experiences about middle school that they will remember for years.

Grade eight parents, you are cordially invited to join us on Monday, June 5th at 6:00 PM for our 8th Grade Recognition Night, where we will celebrate your child’s successful completion of middle school and their transition to high school.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a busy week that started with MAP tests, followed by different class projects, and ending – with a cherry on top – with the last social of the school year.

Each year we have students who transition in and out of the school, and this year is not the exception.

We had the incoming 6th graders visiting from the Elementary School on Wednesday and Thursday. These students had the opportunity to visit classes and meet their teachers.

As we prepare to welcome the current fifth graders into the middle school next year, we will be inviting their parents to the grade-six PRIME trip presentation next Monday, May 29th at 3:30 in room 115.

In physical education the students are learning to play baseball in the “striking and fielding” unit. For many of our students the skills can be challenging because they are still developing their eye-hand coordination.

We are excited to share that we are planning Ms. Heba Abdelnady’s visit, as part of our guest speaker program in the MS, particularly for Mr. Jorge Villafuerte’s class. The visit will take place on Tuesday May 30th, from 9:50 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. Please note that the guest speaker will be bringing an electric car as an opportunity to demonstrate and discuss with MS students some of the concepts being taught in class.

This is a reminder that on May 23rd, we will be hosting the Student-Led Conferences. You will be receiving an invitation from your child’s advisory teacher by next Tuesday. We understand that it can be tricky to be away from other commitments during the school day, however, we want you to keep the following in mind: during traditional parent-teacher conferences, students are mainly passive or even absent, as opposed to student-led conferences, where they go through a process of reflection and ownership of their learning journey. For grade eight students and parents, this will be a milestone in children’s learning transformation through their middle school experiences as they head off to high school next fall. We invite you to support your child’s learning journey, by being part of 100% parent participation in these conferences, together we can empower every child in the MS!

Also, on May 23rd, following the SLC, we will have a PRIME Trip presentation for all current 6th & 7th-grade parents. The presentation will take place in room 115 beginning at 3:15 pm. You will receive a newsletter from the trip leaders today.

To all grade eight parents, you are cordially invited to join us on Monday, June 5th at 6:00 PM for our 8th Grade Recognition Night, where we will celebrate your child’s successful completion of middle school and their future transition to high school. The ceremony will be held in the CAC Theater. We will start promptly at 6:00 PM and conclude with a reception on the HS field from 7:00-9:00 PM. Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views.

In light of Teachers’ Appreciation Week, I want to start this week’s newsletter by recognizing the amazing group of teachers that we have.

It was another week of MAP testing and make-ups. From what I have heard, the students have shown tremendous growth, and there is still more data to come.

In seventh grade, students were in the science lab observing an experiment before they tackled the process.

On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, we had the Spring Music Festival. The beginning band and the concert band, along with the choir, did a phenomenal job showcasing their skills with their instruments and voices. On Wednesday, the string class students were awesome. Kudos on the music selection by Mr. McCuaig and Mr. Dzamashvili. It was two special evenings that gave our students an opportunity to shine in the Arts.

This is a reminder that on May 23rd, we will be hosting the Student-Led Conferences. You will be receiving an invitation from your child’s advisory teacher by next Tuesday. We place great emphasis in the way that students showcase their learning; therefore, we want to achieve 100% parent participation for these conferences. The reasoning behind this emphasis is student investment in the process. During traditional parent-teacher conferences, students are mainly passive or even absent, as opposed to student-led conferences, where they go through a process of reflection and ownership of their learning journey. For grade eight students and parents, this will be a milestone in children’s learning transformation through their middle school experiences as they head off to high school next fall.

Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. We had a four-day week, and we hope you enjoy your three-day weekend.

The students started MAP testing this week, and it will continue until the end of next week. Please support your child by sending a healthy snack from home and ensuring they get to bed at a reasonable time for eight hours of sleep.

With only five weeks remaining in the 2022-23 school year, many things are happening that we would like parents to engage in.

Next week on May 8th and 9th, we will have a Strings and Music Concert in the theater. The cost is free, please come out and listen to some good music. The following week we will have our final school social of the year on May 18th after school from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

On May 23rd, we will have our student-led conferences. During traditional parent-teacher conferences, students are mainly passive or even absent. One way to fix this is to put students at the lead, as they are the ones who are responsible for their work and progress and can best communicate the learning journey they have been on. This is the student’s moment to share their reflections on achievements and challenges with parents and seek assistance for the next academic year.

All grade eight parents, you are cordially invited to join us on Monday, June 5th at 6:00 PM for our 8th Grade Recognition Night, where we will celebrate your child’s successful completion of Middle school and their future transition to High School. The ceremony will be held in the CAC Theater. We will start promptly at 6:00 PM and conclude with a reception on the HS field from 7:00-9:00 PM.
