Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s version of the News and Views. It was a short week due to the long weekend. I hope you had a fun and relaxing time. The weather was appropriate to spend time outside and that is where we need to spend the majority of our time.

This week is known as Teacher Appreciation Week and there’s never been a time that teachers need our appreciation more than at the end of the 2020-21 school year! Most of the world has managed remote learning to some degree and it was CHALLENGING, to say the least.

Our teachers have been under extreme stress! Last year when the stay-at-home order was still ringing in my ears, I wrote to teachers and told them we had to pivot on a dime to teach “virtually” and they did. There simply is not a way to properly express “appreciation” for what they’ve done for our students. First of all, students wouldn’t be in school experimenting on parts of the cow, there would be no Arts Festival or After School Activities. If a teacher hadn’t inspired them, pushed them, and encouraged them. So, I invite you to collectively thank our teachers for that.

Secondly, now more than ever, the value of teachers is obvious. With so many parents pulling the double duty of working from home while simultaneously playing the role of teacher for their kids. This pandemic has definitely tested everyone in ways never imagined.

Teachers are the unsung heroes that don’t (always) wear capes. They’re the glue that holds the CAC communities together, especially in challenging times like these. Teachers are incredible, giving, talented individuals who lead and cultivate future generations of creators, and they should be admired and applauded.

It’s been a uniquely hard school year, and I’ve heard from many teachers that they are exhausted—physically, mentally, and emotionally. That’s why I’m taking this opportunity during Teacher Appreciation Week to write something special to honor their effort, resilience, and love for what they do.

Allow me to close by thanking our teachers for all of their efforts to keep the learning going during the most chaotic 14 months in our lifetimes!

The students are participating in the Arts Festival this week with lunchtime performances. It is great to see how much some of our students have grown as musicians.

Next week we will celebrate the Eid holiday and for many families it is time to get together and celebrate. However, this year I am not encouraging that families get together. I want you to stay apart and do everything possible to stay healthy. We managed to stave off the second wave, by being intentional and keeping each other safe. Now isn’t the time to let our guard down; we are a few weeks from the end of the school year.

We can somewhat control how we end the school year and our students deserve to have a celebration at the end of the year preferably face-to-face instead of online.

Thanks for all you do to support the middle school.

In Partnership,

Courtney Bailey
Middle School Principal
