Middle School Principal’s Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s edition of the News and Views. It was a busy week with the preparation for the accreditation visit next week.

We have reached out to many of you to participate in the accreditation process, and I want to thank you for taking the time to contribute to the experience. Students will be taking part in the process as well.

The 8th grade Science students were tasked with an engineering challenge that asked them to design a device that would protect a chicken egg. The device had particular weight and materials specifications that the students were encouraged to observe. The devices were supposed to shield the eggs from breaking after a fall of 16 meters to meet the challenge. Students considered issues of acceleration, mass, and force as they designed and constructed their devices. Many students were successful with the challenge and demonstrated the effective application of Newtonian principles in their designs.

In 7th grade, Language Arts students enjoyed reading and working hard while enjoying the sunny outdoors area.

In 7th grade, Social Studies students were doing a presentation on the Amazon RainForests. The presentation was followed by a debate.

I want to thank the parents who were in attendance at my coffee morning. You had an opportunity to hear from Chikaro and Bassem on the The World Needs A Father Movement. This is a movement that we started before the pandemic but had to put on hold. These gentlemen were encouraged by their parents to resurrect it again. If you would like to learn more, please reach out to(chickaro@gmail.com or bassem@malekdc.com).

We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Egyptian Pirates performance next week Thursday and Friday. Please be reminded that tickets usually sell out fast, so be sure to get yours ASAP.

Thank you for your continuous support of the Middle School.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey
The Middle School Principal

NESA Parents as Partners Webinar Series – Session 6
November 16, 4:00-5:00pm (Athens, Greece GMT+2)

Writing the New Story of Wholeness, Integration and Inclusion
With Kavita Tanna

Achieving wholeness, integration and inclusion requires conversation, reflection and learning. Schools have recently undertaken all of these things in earnest in order to foster a sense of belonging for all members of the school community. In this webinar, we will identify why this work is needed, define the terms being used and review what schools are doing globally. Understand the significance and value of this work for all members of the learning community and leave with recommendations of how to engage your children in this meaningful conversation for belonging through a new story of wholeness, integration and inclusion.

Alumni Who?

Alumni Who? Our alumni continue to make us proud all over the world. Learn a little about a different alumnus every week and what he/she has been up to since graduation by clicking here.

This time it is our alumna Nora Shawki- an archaeologist and Egyptologist that is also the first woman in the Middle East and Africa to be granted the National Geographic Explorer grant award.
Very interesting and inspiring!
